This is the future of Central High School junior Scott Best. As a Junior, Best already knows what he wants to do. He wants to be a director. He wants to be behind the camera and tell a story. Throughout his life, he knew that he wanted to do something that would tell a story but he just didn’t know how.
“It wasn’t until I saw the film ‘The Shining’ directed by Stanley Kubrick that I knew I wanted to be a director,” Best said.
The film ‘The Shining’ opened Best’s eyes to how deep a director really goes into making a movie. It also allowed him to realize that he wanted to make film making a full fledged career of his.
The filmmaking business can be tough and cruel, and even the mighty Scott Best is not stopped by this.
“There are days when I feel like I can’t do it, and I feel like I can’t accomplish anything at all,” Best said.
Despite this, Best is pursuing his dream with all of his heart. Best acknowledges that it is going to be a difficult journey, but he always has people that tell him to keep going.
“My parents are very supportive of what I do, as well as my sister,” Best said. “In addition, I also have two local director friends that would willingly give me their advice and help me through this process as well as the famous directors that I have seen movies of, the main one being Stanley Kubrick as well as Tim Burton and others.”
With all of the support that he has, Best might be the next Tim Burton or Stanley Kubrick. He has already directed his first film ‘Daniel’ over the summer.
“You can expect a lot more short film features from me in the long run,” Best said. “I’m just getting started.”
